:: Interesting Discussion Going ::

I raise this to the forefront for folks to jump in.  Let’s be clear though…I advocate for discussion, debates are problematic, arguments unacceptable.  If this digresses, I will close discussion.  With that… onward.

Things I’ve Learned Lately

1.  Carpet knives are extremely sharp.

2.  Installing hardwood floors is extremely hard on the knees.

3.  House projects always cost more and take longer than planned.

4.  Trim carpentry isn’t as easy as it looks.

5.  Blogging is like working out.  Once you stop, it is hard to get started again.

Well folks, we’ve been on vacation and then life has been busy. I hate to keep you waiting…but I must. God is a God of miracles. I can tell you that. I’ve been doing wonderfully, or so I’m told. I feel like “we” (my wife and I) are feeling better than we’ve felt in a long time. My body is getting healthier every day (through a lot of hard work) and the plan is to keep that up. My work schedule demands my life only during the month of September. And it is… 04 Sep 2007. So, that means…I won’t have time to share until October.

Until then,

Burnout ~ Part 4

We left off talking about the need to unload your plate and let others come alongside to help. When you are broken, that is almost easily accomplished. Add an introverted, hard-headed, reclusive personality to the equation and it’s not so easy. Uhh, that would be me. Continue reading ‘Burnout ~ Part 4′

So…what do you do if you find yourself on the brink of burnout or worse yet, you’re already off the cliff? I’m not sure, but here is what I did – learn what you can and disregard the rest. Continue reading ‘Burnout ~ Part 3′

Burnout ~ Part 2

NOTE TO READERS: Due to the personal nature of these posts, I feel like I need to offer an invite for anyone who would like to discuss this. If some of you are or have struggled with similar circumstances, something tells me that a public comment on a blog may not be something you want to do. If that is the case, please email me at ” [myfirstname @ s u m m i t c r o s s i n g [d o t] o r g . I would love to talk with you.

Burnout can be a tricky thing. I’ve seen it come in many forms and in many ways. For me, it was very similar to the “boiling a frog” metaphor. Just like the frog who won’t jump out of the water as the heat is slowly turned up, I failed to recognize the warning signs of my oncoming crash. Continue reading ‘Burnout ~ Part 2′

Burnout ~ Part I

A few posts back, I spoke rather ambiguously about my health failing me. I was reluctant to share details for many reasons, but God has/is bringing me into a fuller understanding of this time in my life. Additionally, my sabbath has been announced to the church body, so I feel more freedom to share. So here we go… Continue reading ‘Burnout ~ Part I’

Cinderalla vs. Jesus (Round 2)

For those of you who haven’t read Cineralla vs. Jesus (Round 1), it may make more sense if you go back and read that first.

Since Jesus squared off with a four year old’s recollections of Cinderalla, Lillie (the same four year old) had been asking probing questions Continue reading ‘Cinderalla vs. Jesus (Round 2)’

For Fathers…The Power of Words

I have a new addition to my office. It sits unpretentiously on my desk to the right of my phone within easy reach. It’s not ornate……not even neat actually. It’s a old-school blue-lined piece of notebook paper torn suddenly from a spiral notebook. You know, the kind you used to have to go buy with Mom during the “Back to School” sales. It lies there worn and ragged from my hands unfolding and folding as I read it over and over. It’s not a list of scripture references or even a well-penned prayer by some saint who has gone before. It’s not a step by step tutorial on how to fix my old Volkswagens either. Continue reading ‘For Fathers…The Power of Words’

Cinderalla vs. Jesus (Round 1)

•July 18, 2007 • 3 Comments

Here’s something for the “Ligher Side”…something I could use more of here lately.  Several weeks ago now, our family was going down the road and out of the relative blue, my 4 year old said “Poor Nanny”.  Now mind you, my mother-in-law had just died and she has few words or ability to understand the totality of that situation.  However, I took it as an opportunity to speak about Heaven and how we get there.  Here is a brief summary of our conversation. Continue reading ‘Cinderalla vs. Jesus (Round 1)’
